Honda will take centre stage at next month’s Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, as the Japanese manufacturer celebrates 60 years of TT triumphs.
Honda to celebrate 60 years of TT excellence at Festival of Speed
A selection of models will tell the tale of Honda’s two-wheeled racing heritage, from its premier TT entry in 1959, to the present day MotoGP machines – namely the RC213V on which Marc Marquez won the World Championship last year.
Legendary Honda champions will pilot these priceless motorcycles up the hill, including 1999 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan and two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner, who rode a Repsol Honda to victory in 2011.
Prolific TT riders, including 16-time Honda winner John McGuinness, Ian Hutchinson and Manxman Conor Cummins will also be in attendance. On the hillclimb, McGuinness will ride the Zero TT Mugen Shinden machine and his current Norton TT challengers.
Hutchinson, who remains the only person to score five wins in a single week, will climb aboard his 2010 Senior TT-winning Padgetts Racing CBR1000RR, while Cummins will pilot the latest Padgetts Superbike up the hill. TT sidecar lap record holders and winners of this year’s Sidecar race, the Birchall brothers, will return to the Festival of Speed with their Honda-powered LCR sidecar set-up.
The 2019 Festival of Speed will feature the theme of ‘Speed Kings – Motorsport’s Record Breakers’, and as such will feature a host of extraordinary bikes, from 1920s Brooklands challengers, to more recent record breakers. Fittingly, the most successful rider in Grand Prix history, Giacomo Agostini, will once again ride an MV Agusta up the hill.
Complementing the race machines will be a selection of high spec road bikes, which can be seen in the Michelin Supercar Paddock. Returning for a second year, the road bike category will feature the brand new BMW S1000RR, Norton V4RR, Ducati V4 Corse, Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, plus the futuristic Arc Vector.
Limited tickets for Friday 5thJuly and Sunday 7th July are still available, and can be purchased here.
