Europe is home to some of the most historically significant race tracks in the world. The continent is of course the birthplace of Formula 1, where it resided exclusively for much of its formative years. The original F1 grand prix was held at Silverstone, and a list of the championship’s most heralded circuits will include venues in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Spain.

Sure, the world of motorsport has branched out massively since those earliest of days, but there is still an enormously rich history embedded in many of Europe’s best race tracks. While some of them have sadly been overwhelmed by the passage of time, others remain in use today much as they would have been more than 50 years ago.
The likes of Monza and Spa-Francorchamps have become destinations for pilgrims the world over who are desperate to experience the magic of racing history. Meanwhile, the roller-coaster ride of Portimao, a far newer circuit, has quickly become a fan favourite thanks to its spectacular surroundings.
And how can you forget about the Circuit de la Sarthe? The home of the Le Mans 24 Hours has to be the best circuit in the world, doesn’t it? That’s a debate we could have all day. But, there’s no denying this collection of European circuits makes for one hell of a bucket list.
