Video: This is as close as you can get to driving a Ferrari F1 car

When the Ferrari 246 Dino was a contemporary Grand Prix racer, the idea of spectators being able to get an onboard view of it attacking a circuit could scarcely have been imagined. Nowadays, over 60 years on, we can stick a camera almost anywhere.

So let’s take a ride flat-out around Zandvoort in glorious high definition, as this screaming V6 Ferrari F1 car battles it out around the classic, fast, sweeping and undulating circuit. As we know from our own Goodwood Revival, the owners and drivers don’t hold back on account of the car’s seniority.  When the flag drops, a historical artefact becomes a mass of metal, oil and rubber, designed to lap as fast as possible.

Of course, the 246 has nothing in the way of downforce, with tyres that would look skinny on a modern day hatchback. As a result, we get a first person view of some truly epic car control, as the ‘50s Ferrari bends its treads on the edge of grip. We’re excited for the Christmas break but good lord, footage like this gives us the itch for next year’s season to begin, at the 80th Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport…
