The news has broken from McLaren that it has decided to retain Jenson Button alongside Fernando Alonso for 2015.
Apparently the Alonso deal was buttoned-up (…sorry) some weeks ago, but the decision over who to partner the two-time World Champion with has taken some careful consideration. Despite the popular opinion being that young charger Kevin Magnussen would get the nod, the decision has been taken to retain experienced 2009 World Champion Button, with the promising Dane retained as test/backup driver.
This means that McLaren’s principal driving staff for next season has a total of 504 Grands Prix under its belt! With new engine supplier Honda having had a season observing the new turbo-hybrid engines, hopes are high that Woking’s finest can return to the sharp end of the field.
