We love a hot hatch here at GRR, but generally speaking the ones we go for are more akin to the Ford Fiesta ST – small, lightweight, nimble, fun and, most importantly, reasonably affordable. The Audi RS3, however, is a very different beast.

And we mean beast in every sense of the word, because this car is an absolute monster. With 400PS (294kW) and 500Nm (369lb ft) of torque, it is alarmingly quick in a straight line – 0-62mph takes just 3.2 seconds. It also benefits from four-wheel drive and torque vectoring, and that 2.5-litre five-cylinder is an absolute peach. But all of that means it cost more than £50,000, in some cases a lot more.
In many ways the RS3 is a completely different car to something like the Fiesta ST, but does it justify that enormous price tag? Watch on to find out.
