GRR Podcast #2 – '50s GP Cars, Modern F1 and McLaren With Hakkinen And Mass

29th March 2016

In our second GRR podcast we meet some motorsport legends...

Fresh from driving the legendary Mercedes-Benz W196 and W196 Streamliner (which you can watch here), Mika Häkkinen and Jochen Mass chatted with Rob Widdows about their experience in these most historic of grand prix racing cars for the latest Goodwood Road & Racing podcast. In case you missed it, their conversation was captured in this video.

As well as telling us what it was like to pilot those incredible 1950s racers around the Motor Circuit, conversation also turned to the state of modern Formula One racing ('Not allowing testing is ridiculous' in Jochen's view) and, on a topic closer to both men's hearts, the current fortunes of the once-conquering McLaren team for whom they have both had race wins – and, in Häkkinen's case, two world championships.

Oh, and Rob did also pose the question to Mika as to whether he'll get involved in historic racing. That's something we'd all like to see...
