Porsche picked up some of the tab and created a series of videos around his journey, from his first lower formula steps right to racing a GTE 911 RSR in the European Le Mans Series. The ultimate goal was to race at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
That dream was achieved in 2022, but Fassbender found, as many have before, that the World's Greatest Motor Race can chew you up and spit you out a broken man. He found himself at times used as a bit of of an automotive pinball and limped to 51st position by the end alongisde team-mates Matt Cambpbell and Zacharie Robichon.
That could well have been the end of Fassbender's dreams. But no, the Irish-born actor picked himself up and aimed for a return. Now Porsche is releasing a feature-length documentary about that journey in search of redemption, and this is the trailer.
If the trailer is anything to go by, this should be a documentary that makes Drive to Survive look like a school play. Real drama, real emotions, and very little need for playing up to the facts is what we're hoping to find when the full film is released in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that's what the trailer suggests.
"I just knew it was something I had to do," says Fassbender at the end, in suitibly Hollywood terms. And that's enough to sell us on watching.
