Video: The 1990 Monaco GP with Nigel Mansell
To look at this video of his 1990 season, you’d think not. Join the then 37-year-old Mansell as he takes on the early stages of the 1990 Grand Prix season behind the wheel of the Ferrari 641.
It was a tumultuous season for the Brit, who was plagued by reliability problems, and forced to retire from seven races, as well as being on the receiving end of the Maranello-team’s bias for his team-mate, Alain Prost. Reportedly, ahead of the British Grand Prix, his car was secretly swapped for Prost’s by the mechanics who had deemed it to be the better vehicle.
Nonetheless, his performance was consistent and smooth and his character unfaltering. Watch in intricate detail as he rides the highs and lows of the pinnacle of motorsport, with a spot of Golf thrown in for good measure.
