Entrants for the splendid Spa FIA Historic Masters event who’d been at the Revival will have had barely a day or two to organise their cars for the trip to the Ardennes.
Once there, conditions were evidently not as clement as they’d been in West Sussex just a few days earlier, however judging by these images the racing was spectacular. Lola T70s, AC Cobras, Ford GT40s, Mk2 Escorts, Mustangs, 911s et al all put on a fine display in the conditions, which as you can see from the gallery above were more than a little awkward on occasion!
The Leo Voyazides/Simon Hadfield Lola T70 won the Sports Car race, with pre-’66 GT honours going to Roger Wills’ Bizzarini which came home ahead of a trio of AC Cobras. In the Seventies Celebration Touring Car race, Brit Steve Dance eventually prevailed in his Capri whilst Roger Wills again took pre-’66 honours in his Mercury Comet Cyclone.
In all it looks like it was another memorable event on what is considered by some to be the finest racing circuit in the world. Sadly, a busy schedule meant that we couldn’t be there, but we’ll make up for that next year.
