What could be the worst possible thing to happen to you at the start of a race? Fire? Probably. Outright engine failure? Not ideal, it has to be said. Think bigger! What if your car tried to take off? Now we’re talking! Stephen Smith – driver of the Chevron-Ford B15 at the 74th Members’ Meeting – can testify. At the start of the Derek Bell Cup he crossed swords with a Brabham-Ford BT21 and the result was this spectacular wheelie.
As the video demonstrates, the front of Stephen's car is launched into the air, before thankfully landing safely back on terra firma. The car was luckily undamaged and carried on, but what a way to kick off your race!
