We can’t talk about the Brooklands Trophy without giving special mention to the incredible ‘Owlett’, the Frazer Nash Saloon so called because its back end styling looks like an owl peering at all it passes. Patrick Blakeney-Edwards hustles cars that look far more convincingly sporting, which only adds to the spectacle. Note, too, its unusually wide front track when compared to the rear. He finished on the podium.
Top honours went to Neil Twyman in the Alfa Romeo 8C 2600 ‘Muletto’, which has a quite wonderful patina. His celebration as he crosses the line summed up the emotion of the victory. All the highlights from the race for sports cars in the spirit of the great endurance races at Brooklands prior to 1939 are in the video above.
