The final details are falling into place, the paddocks are a hive of activity and the sun is shining… our corner of the West Sussex countryside has taken on a distinctly ‘Revival’ vibe, and it’s only going to get better in the run up to the event’s opening on Friday.

While workmen perfect the set-dressing for which Revival has now become famous, the first of the racing cars have arrived and are being rolled out of their transporters. Scrutineering for the special all Austin A30 and A35 St Mary’s Trophy is today, so the full grid’s worth of those diminutive 1950s saloons are present and – hopefully! – correct.
In other corners of the paddock we’ve already spied larger, more powerful machines. How about a lone Ford GT40 in a stand-off with a Lola T70 in an otherwise almost empty paddock? Or a Lotus 49 grand prix car in what, by the time the gates are open, will be a line-up of several of the same?
Today, the soundtrack at Goodwood is dominated by lorries, vans and tractors delivering one of the greatest motorsport shows on earth. But every now and then, a race engine will bark into life to give us a hint of what’s to come this weekend. We can’t wait!
