£1.6M could buy you James Bond's Goldeneye Aston Martin DB5
&width=1600)
It’s the DB5 from the 1995 James Bond movie, GoldenEye – yup, the car in which our hero races a Ferrari F355 around the hills above Monaco, eliciting 007’s female companion to enquire: “James, is it really necessary to drive quite so fast?” adding the immortal line: “I enjoy a spirited ride as much as the next girl…”
It is one of the most dynamic and car-crazy starts to any Bond film, and the 1965 DB5’s place in movie history is assured. At the Festival of Speed sale it is expected to make between £1.2 and £1.6 million.
A huge sum…but not quite enough to eclipse Bonhams’ other Aston star at the FoS sale, the ex-Jim Clark DB4 GT Zagato which is likely to become the most expensive British car ever sold at a European auction.
And if that’s not enough, on 2 June Bonhams is having an Aston-only sale where plenty more Astons, including many of a more affordable nature, will be crossing the block. The GoldenEye DB5 will be on display at this sale, being held at Englefield House, Reading.
Bonhams head of cars Sholto Gilbertson says: “The DB5 is the ultimate Bond car. Every fan remembers Pierce Brosnan tearing through the hills in this car, and it must be up there as one of the most thrilling Bond car chases in history.”
When bought by the current owner in 2001 the car became the most valuable piece of Bond memorabilia ever sold. It has been on display at both The National Motor Museum and the Bond in Motion exhibition at Covent Garden.
