In 1999, Nick Heidfeld set a time of 41.6 seconds on the Goodwood hillclimb, a time so fast it has stood as the hill record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard ever since. This year, 20 years later, Volkswagen Motorsport brought its Pikes Peak and Nürburgring-conquering all-electric Volkswagen ID.R and driver, two-time Le Mans-winner Romain Dumas to Goodwood with one goal: break that record.
