GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough crashes on the virtual hill

In 2011 Jann Mardenborough won the Nissan GT Academy competition, beating 90,000 others on Playstation’s Gran Turismo game to win a seat at that year’s Dubai 24 hour race. But if his recent efforts on the Playstation are anything to go by, he seems to have lost his touch!

Thankfully though, the 22-year-old is in better form behind the wheel of a real car, competing at Le Mans this season with a 5th place finish.

Since his Dubai debut, Jann has proved he is more than just a one-trick pony, with wins in both the British GT Championship and Toyota Racing Series, as well as a third place in the LMP2 class of Le Mans last year.

Jann is at FOS for the first time this year taking on the hill in the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 car. We caught up with him while he was getting in some practise on the Playstation, where things weren’t going too well. But by the time he ventured out for real, he had got to grips with things enough to take this photo while driving…
