Video: Flat‑Out and Fearless ‑ epic NASCAR finish at Talladega

The Festival of Speed is always honoured to host a strong line up of cars and drivers from North America. This year though sees a particularly strong line-up including ‘Big Daddy’ Don Garlits, ‘The King’ Richard Petty with his seminal Plymouth Superbird,Ballistic’ BJ Baldwin in his Trophy Truck and the ex-Dale Earnhardt Chevy Monte Carlo being brought along by Richard Childress Racing… just for starters.

It’s NASCAR we turn to again for this week’s celebration of the 2015 FoS theme ‘Flat-Out and Fearless: Racing on the Edge’, and the finish of the 2010 ‘Aaron’s 499‘ race at Talladega. The finish was remarkable enough (and came courtesy of just a tad of gamesmanship), but just as incredible was the fact that during the race there were no fewer than 29 different leaders, with the lead changing on 88 occasions! Dull, it certainly was not …

By the time the finishing line was a couple of laps away, Jamie McMurray and Kevin Harvick were literally bumper-to-bumper for the lead, with McMurray in front. Then they reached the final corner …

Be sure to take a look at the slow-mo’ replay after the flag drops to find out exactly how Harvick, who’d been on a 115-race winless streak, managed to bag the win; it’s almost a shame that you can’t do this in modern F1!
