In 1923, these were the very fastest cars on the planet and a plan was hatched to race them head to head at Brooklands. It never happened, but at this year's Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, they will finally do battle.
Video: Brooklands legends on the ultimate road trip
The 143mph Delage DHV12 is exactly as it was when Frenchman Rene Thomas raced it in 1923, complete with the original chassis and bodywork. JG Parry Thomas's 1922 Leyland-Thomas Special clocked 135mph in period but sadly didn't survive, but has been precisely recreated as the replica you see here using the original engine.
Since both cars carry numberplates, it would seem remiss not to take them on a road trip from the famous banked circuit in Weybridge, Surrey, to Goodwood House. In this video, you can hitch a ride on the road trip of a lifetime.
