Helmet cam: Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s smokey FOS climb
If you were one of the many thousands of individuals who lined the hay bales at the 2017 Festival of Speed you would have had a rather excellent view of Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s very smokey run up the hill; the sun was out and there were doughnuts to watch. But one individual had the best seat in the house: Vaughn Gittin Jr. Interested to see the view he had? Well here it is.
Although the camera itself is positioned a little low, it gives us the opportunity to see just how much work is going on behind the wheel to put on a very loud, sideways show. Between throwing the steering wheel around, moving up and down through the gears and pulling the handbrake, it’s a wonder Vaughn Gittin Jr. had time to wave at the crowds.
The car? It’s a 2016 Ford Mustang RTR (Spec 5-FD), RTR being Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s team name, ‘Ready To Rock’. It has a 950bhp Roush Yates 436 Ford engine (that revs to 9,000rpm), an Andrews four-speed dog-box transmission and rear-wheel-drive, of course. It’s quite the machine.
