Motor Circuit

Noise Management

Introduction

The level of activity at Goodwood Motor Circuit is governed by planning conditions granted by Chichester District Council.

These conditions specify the operational hours of the venue and the overall noise limit allowed for particular days. They also require a sophisticated noise monitoring system to be permanently established at the Motor Circuit and for the venue to be operated in accordance with a detailed Noise Management Plan.

Track day grading

“Silent” and Category 4 days are when the driving of motor vehicles on the Circuit is severely restricted and the activity is not likely to be particularly audible in the community.

Category 3 and 2 days are when the Circuit is in use for high speed driving activities but under strict noise limits, with Category 1 Race days being unrestricted.

Published on this section of the Goodwood website is the latest Motor Circuit calendar for the current calendar year, which includes the noise category allocated to each particular day of the year, together with a title that briefly outlines the activity booked to take place. This annual calendar of events will be updated on a regular basis through the year.

The Goodwood Motor Circuit Consultative Committee meets on a regular basis and reviews the operation of the venue and its impact on the local community. This forum includes representatives from all the local councils and residents' groups, together with officers from CDC and the Motor Circuit management team.

Noise reports

After each operating day on the Motor Circuit a report is placed on our website that shows the noise levels recorded during that day.
