The Group 1 Qatar International Stakes for Purebred Arabians was run for the first time at Goodwood Racecourse in 2015, following the sponsorship deal which created the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Run over a mile, the overall prize fund up for this prestigious race is £400,000, with £200,000 awarded to the winner, this makes it the most valuable Arabian horserace staged in the UK.

French-trained challengers have always done well in this contest, Sir Bani Yas landed the inaugural Qatar International Stakes in 2015 for owner Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nayhan, trainer Elizabeth Bernard and jockey Jean- Bernard Eyquem. In recent years, the globetrotting grey horse Ebraz have dominated this contest taking in the race in 2019 and 2020. In a glittering career he subsequently became the most successful Arabian horse in history both in monetary terms and in the ratings.

2021 Winner, Lady Princess
The 17 entries for the 2022 renewal include last year’s eye-catching winner Lady Princess, who has since finished second in the Qatar Arabian World Cup in Paris, won the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan Jewel Crown in Abu Dhabi and the HH The Amir Sword in Qatar making her the highest rated Arabian mare in the world.
Lady Princess will take on First Classs a winner of the Qatar Derby and the $1million turf race for Arabians in Saudi Arabia, alongside Hattal who was successful in the UAE Arabian Derby at Doncaster in 2020. This provides an integrating renewal to get proceedings underway on day two of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
