As we emerge into the New Year, we are focussing more than ever on a safe and successful year of flying at Goodwood. With the prospect of a few months of winter weather ahead which brings with it some unique flying challenges we wanted you to familiarise yourself with the Goodwood Aerodrome policies.

Winter flying activity operations
&width=1600)
The CAA produced specific guidance on winter flying discipline which can be found here. We’ll also make some printed copies available in the pilot briefing room within the Aerodrome Building, so please feel free to take a copy the next time you’re passing.
As the weather, hopefully, starts to ease and flying activity returns to normal, there are a few aspects of the operation at Goodwood that we would ask you to familiarise yourselves with.
Noise Abatement
My thanks to those of you who steadfastly follow our Noise Abatement procedures. Flown correctly, it really does reduce the disturbance to our neighbours. The most common complaint concerns the right hand turn on Runway 24. Sometimes, the right hand turn is flown to avoid Summersdale so enthusiastically that they then fly over East Lavant. The correct noise routeing is to fly through the 'gap' (open fields) between the two, which does require a slight left turn after the right turn. There is no crosswind leg of the RWY24 circuit and you should be north of Lavant, on your right hand side in a correctly flown circuit, before turning downwind. If you're having difficulty interpreting or remembering the correct circuit pattern on RWY24, or indeed any of the other runways, please ask the team in the Tower who will be delighted to help.
Good airmanship
We still have some aircraft owners completing their power checks outside of hangars and directing prop wash towards the parked aeroplanes inside. Please move well away from the hangars before completing power checks. Also, for our based customers who enjoy out of hours flying, please ensure that you check NOTAMs before flying, familiarise with the restrictions that apply to flying after hours and also leave brakes off and the aeroplane chocked at the end of your flight. Please can we ask that administrators of group and syndicated aeroplanes ensure that all their members have access to the out of hours flying restrictions.
Airspace Infringement prevention
Goodwood is committed to working with other, neighbouring Aerodromes, Airports and Airspace providers to promote local airspace infringement risk and support a reduction in airspace infringements. As part of your pre-flight planning, please make sure that you have considered the proximity of neighbouring airspace to your intended track and always aim to stay at least 2nm laterally from controlled airspace boundaries and at least 200’ below, or above, an airspace boundary. There is a lot of good information on the Airspace Safety website, some of which is very specific to Solent CTA and infringement prevention, so please take a moment to look at this. Click here for the Airspace Safety website. In February, the Farnborough Airspace changes will also be introduced and our February Goodwood Aero Club e-shot will have a much more detailed overview of what the changes are.
