Member Spotlight: Bea Harling

In this month's Health & Wellbeing Member spotlight, we meet Bea Harling and find out more about her fascinating career in cookery and nutrition and how that has shaped her health and wellbeing journey, along with her love for dance.

Born in London and of Irish descent, Beatrice’s story is a really exciting one. Travelling all over the world with her career in cookery, but always retaining her status as a ‘petrol head’. Bea finds all she needs to fulfil her passion for these through not only her Health & Wellbeing membership, but also as a member of the GRRC and with her dog, Milo, as a member of The Kennels.

After graduating with a degree in Food and Consumer Sciences, Bea went on to develop products, recipes and even style food for photoshoots with Marks & Spencer. After training with the National Magazine Company, Bea wrote features for various magazines alongside the Daily Telegraph and BBC Good Food. Following this, she ran commercial projects for the Good Housekeeping Institutes Food and Product Test Centre.

In her next role, managing a test kitchen, she met her business partner and friend, Phil Vickery. Together they formed “Seriously Good Gluten Free Food Ltd.” As part of their work, they wrote many recipe books together alongside working closely with digestive charities. These experiences led them to write the Gourmand World Cookbook Award Winning ‘Ultimate Diabetes Cookbook’.

Throughout all this, Bea and her husband would regularly attend events at Goodwood, even travelling in from Europe for these. It was this association with the estate that influenced their decision to settle in their permanent home nearby to the estate.

A self-proclaimed superfan of Health & Wellbeing at Goodwood, Bea loves participating in the holistic classes and has particularly enjoyed the new Alexander Technique class. She enjoys mixing this with being a regular attendee of the more movement-based choreographed classes; Boogie Tone and Showtime Fusion.

It’s classes such as these and the time spent with others in the Health & Wellbeing community that have ignited her joy of dance that have helped maintain her mood and wellbeing. This led her to join the Chichester Lindy Hoppers, who have gone on to dance on stage at Goodwood Revival.

As well as this, Bea can regularly be found attending Goodwood’s gut-health related events and masterclasses.

When she’s not in one of the classes or events, she loves to spend time shopping at the Goodwood Home Farm Shop, enabling her to work with some of her recipes from her past, but still enjoys cooking the occasional recipe from her Irish heritage, such as eel pie!
