5 Mile Run 2018
With the highest number of entries that we’ve ever seen, plus the addition of our 1 Mile Junior race, just under 300 brave individuals tackled one of Goodwood’s most iconic landmarks: The Hillclimb.
In association with Winston’s Wish, our 2018 charity of the year, our runners were cheered on with waving flags and roaring support from family and friends. Estate partners, South Downs Water, were also on hand to keep everyone hydrated as temperatures reached the highest we have ever seen for the event. Warm weather aside, each of our admirable runners showed no signs of needing to throw in the towel!
Setting off the race in style, we were joined by our Olympic Ambassador, Sarah Ayton OBE. Sarah is currently one of our Health Coaches at the Goodwood Health Club and so provided a wealth of encourgaement as our runners were poised at the start line.
The support of our spectators made certain of another course record by two-time champion, Mike Houston. Mike finished in an astonishing 27.20 minutes, followed by our second place winner Tristan Steed with 30.17 minutes and Goodwood’s very own Seth Wise taking the third place spot with 30.43 minutes.
For a second year running, Emma Pullen was our first female finisher with a hugely admirable time of 34.17 minutes. The race was on for second and third place female, with Jessica Thomson finishing in 35.02 minutes and Tamara Lake taking bronze with another great time of 35.19 minutes.
And whilst it was too hot for our four-legged friends to run this year, we were delighted with the turnout for our new Junior Run. Taking on a one mile course, past Goodwood House, our first place winner for 2018 was Bradley Thomas-Holder with a fantastic 5.12 minutes. Closely behind him was our second and third place finishers: Digby Fulford with 5.32 minutes and Hugo Dobrijevic with 5.36 minutes.
Jen Evans-Brewer, Health Club Manager, was delighted with the event: "Our 2018 Hillclimb Run has smashed every record and I am so grateful to everyone who took part and helped to make it such a success. We had more runners this year than ever before, we raised a record £2,000 for our wonderful charity, Winston’s Wish and our men’s winner, Mike Houston, set a new course record with the incredible time of 27.20 minutes.
Our sponsors provided invaluable support, with expert race timing, vital hydration for our runners, equipment, bags, food and entertainment for everyone who took part or cheered family members on. I’d like to say a special well done to all the children who ran so well in our first ever junior race, and a huge thankyou to our Olympic ambassador, Sarah Ayton OBE for starting the race for us.
Congratulations to everyone who tackled this challenging course in the heat yesterday. You all did fantastically well, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!”
Post event we were joined by many friends of the Estate for evening entertainment with Nigel Smith, and an array of fitness stands; including Salomon, FitBites, Union Coffee and our team of Goodwood Physiotherapists who helped to relieve any tight calf muscles post-run!
Thank you to Race Time Solutions and The Run Company for providing individual time chips for our runners and our goodie bags.
With just over £2000 raised for Winston’s Wish, we would like to congratulate every single male, female and junior that ran last night, especially in the warm weather. We hope to see many faces returning for 2019!
