Trial Lessons and Learning to Fly
Enjoy a trial lesson as a one-off experience or if you are considering learning to fly. You choose the aircraft and lesson duration.
Whether you're interested in obtaining a flying qualification, or you want to take a trial lesson, there's no better place than Goodwood Flying School.
Cessna Trial Lesson
Try your hand at flying in the modern Cessna, probably the most popular training aircraft in the world. You will take control of the aircraft under the guidance of one of our experienced Instructors while enjoying the stunning scenery. You can take a lesson for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, which will count towards your qualification if you decide to continue training.
Piper Cub Trial Lesson
For a more unusual trial lesson experience, the vintage Piper Cub has that real ‘classic car’ feel. For your first experience of the Cub, you will sit behind your Instructor as you take control of the aircraft under their expert guidance. With its greater window area, our Cub allows panoramic views of the stunning countryside. If this captures your imagination, you can continue training in the Cub.
Learn to Fly at Goodwood
If you are unsure about tackling a full course to gain a Pilot’s Licence, our ‘Go solo’ course, consisting of 15 hours of training in one of our Cessna 172s or the Cub, may be enough to get you to your first solo flight! If you wish at that point, you could continue your training towards a LAPL or PPL.
Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence
The Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence requires a minimum of 30 hours of training, with less rigorous medical standards than the PPL. It is valid within Europe for aircraft under 2,000kg and a maximum of 3 passengers. This is the ideal licence for the leisure pilot, but can easily be upgraded to a PPL by undertaking the additional training. You can train for your LAPL on the Cessna 172 or the Cub.
Private Pilot’s Licence
The PPL is a licence of an internationally recognised standard and allows you to add more additional ratings than the LAPL. It requires a minimum of 45 hours of training. The PPL is a good place to start if you wish to advance to Commercial or more advanced flying than the LAPL allows. You can train for your PPL on the Cessna 172 or the Cub.
Flight Instructor Training
Our expertise in training instructors is highly regarded and the majority of our graduates have gone on to establish successful careers in aviation.
You will be taught by highly qualified Instructors who will draw upon their many years of experience, to make your course enjoyable and rewarding.
The course can be run either full-time or part-time, on our aircraft (either the Cessnas or the Cub) or possibly your own.
The sheer beauty and excitement of the Goodwood Estate and the surrounding landscape makes Goodwood Aerodrome the ideal choice for self-fly hire in the south of England. Couple this with our unencumbered airspace and Goodwood Aerodrome remains hard to beat!
