5 Mile Run 2019
Congratulations to everyone who took part in our 5 Mile Run yesterday, and a huge thank you to the all of the supporters who didn’t let the rain dampen their spirits
This year’s weather couldn’t have been more of contrast to the soaring temperatures of 2018, however, the rain stopped just in time for the Juniors Race to start and happily, the cooler weather meant that our four-legged friends could join in.
In association with Canine Partners, our 2019 Estate charity, this year’s run welcomed just under 250 adults who tackled the iconic Hillclimb, and we’d like to say a huge well done to all of our runners, and especially to the children who ran our Junior Race.
Our sponsors provided invaluable support, with expert race timing, vital hydration for our runners, equipment, bags, food and entertainment for everyone who took part or cheered family members on.
Setting off the race and handing out the winners’ prizes was the inspirational Amanda Worne. Amanda’s life changed when a bike accident left her paralysed and in a wheelchair. But far from stopping her, this incredible woman has gone on to achieve more in four years than most of us fit in a lifetime. The winning time was achieved by John Peters who completed the run in an amazing 28.28 minutes. Second place was secured by Goodwood’s own Matt Jolly with 29.07 minutes, followed by Joseph Gosling taking third place with a time of 29.59 minutes.
This year a brand new female winner crossed the finish line; Juliet Stallard set a new record for the first female finisher with an impressive time of 33.18 minutes. The race was on for second and third place female, with Caroline Wood finishing in 33.33 minutes and Jessica Thomson taking bronze with another great time of 33.36 minutes.
Taking on a one mile course, past Goodwood House, our first place Junior winner for 2019 was Digby Fulford with a fantastic 6.36 minutes. Closely behind him was our second and third place finishers: Lewis Yates with 6.46 minutes and Charlie Banhan with 6.59 minutes.
Congratulations to everyone who tackled this challenging course yesterday. You all did fantastically well, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
