Downs At Dusk
On Wednesday 9 August we held our first Downs At Dusk event since 2019. This was a great opportunity for members to meet new people, learn more about the course and have a bit of fun!
The evening started out with a welcome glass of Gusbourne on the Silver tees and a welcome speech from our General Manager, Gary Beves. Following this, Members made their way up to the gazebo in a long line of Woody buggies ready for the evening to begin.
We had six stations all located around the gazebo, with members able to spend 15 minutes at each. Firstly, we had a Trackman Challenge with our Academy Manager, Chris McDonnell, on the 7th fairway. On the 7th green, we had a greenkeeper station with our Deputy Head Downs Course Greenkeeper, Dan Cornish, talking all things agronomy from green speeds to moisture control as well as bunker raking and pitch mark awareness. Also, on the 7th green we had a Putting Challenge with Assistant Operations Manager, Tim Martin, and on the 8th we had a nearest the pin challenge with Assistant General Manager, Matt Lavington. Finally, we had a talk from Head Downs Course Greenkeeper, Rob Dyer, about our on-course beehive. Amongst all of this, we had a burger and drink pit stop at the gazebo to keep energy levels nice and high!
Some of these stations had prizes on offer for the winners of the challenges, each of these winners is listed below:
The Trackman Challenge – Siobhan Dawson
Longest Putt Challenge – Adam Mainwaring
Nearest the Pin Challenge – Brian Saunders
Thank you to all who attended our Downs At Dusk event, I’m sure everyone would agree it was fantastic to have a social event and something a bit different.
We’re also hoping to see as many members as possible at our next social event which is our first-ever Golf At Goodwood Members Quiz Night at The Kennels on Thursday 12 October at 18:30.
You can find out more about this exciting new event here.
