June and July round up
Men’s Scratch Team
I must give praise to the Goodwood Scratch Team for the effort that has been shown throughout the knockout stages and to reach the 4th Round is a great achievement. The Covid restrictions on the format of the knockout this year i.e. no fourball better ball and only eight single matches, has not allowed the team to get a feel for the course or warm-up to playing their single matches, but this was the reality of 2021 and it’s the same for other teams too.
We are now in the process of building a great team here at Goodwood and looking forward to more opportunities in the 2021/2022 seasons.
A message from: Jim Plunkett – Scratch Team Captain
Ladies Annodata
The Ladies impressively won their second round of their Annodata Match at home to Bognor 3 -2. Unfortunately, they fell at the 3rd hurdle and were beaten by Chichester in the next round.
Competitions
The Race to Puntacana Order of Merit continues throughout June and July with the infamous Valdoe Trophy taking place on The Downs Course from the silver tees on Sunday 27 June. Michael Olliff had a fantastic score of 41 points, with David Young in second with 38 points.
A reminder that the winner of the 2021 Order of Merit not only enjoys a season of bragging rights but also wins a trip to the world-renowned PGA Tour venue at The Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic for themselves and one other between January 2022 and January 2023.
Competitions away from Golf At Goodwood
A huge congratulations must go to Richard Hoare for winning the Individual Competition at the Bognor Seniors Open with a score of 38 points. A fantastic achievement!
Jeremy Wootton won the Atkinson Bowl with his partner Nigel Buckland at Worthing Golf Club.
The Sykes brothers are continuing their great work with fantastic performances away from Goodwood. First of all, Drew Sykes finished 2nd in the Jean Case Memorial (Under 15's) and 5th in The McGregor Trophy at Camberley Heath Golf Club in Surrey. His brother Joe had a great week at the Faldo Series at The Melbourne Club at Brocket Hall, finishing T16 in the Under 18's division. More importantly Joe is now into the final of the Sussex Amateur. After a successful first day, the second day was rescheduled due to poor weather. We will keep you updated with his progress.
Well done all!
