The first Order of Merit for 2016 welcomed a record number of entrants with over 85 players eager to make their mark in the season opener.

The early sun and anticipation of a beautiful spring day was creating excitement amongst the members as they readied themselves on the driving range with complimentary range balls. Members were welcomed to the first tee by the infamous starter – Gonzalo Escalante along with bottles of water and mouth-watering fresh fruit.
The Stableford format always relaxes players’ minds compared to a Medal format as they know one blowout hole will not ruin the score card.
The greens were proving tricky with most players finding it difficult to judge as they were in final stages of recovery from the recent maintenance work by the greenkeepers.
There were some very strong scores coming through 9 holes with some players scoring 23 and 22 points. The question was could they keep this up? The easiest playing hole on the day was the 6th with a scoring average being 4.5. The hardest playing hole on the day was, with no surprise, the 14th with a scoring average of 5.7 – nearly two strokes over par
The overall winner was David Carter (11 hdc) with a great score of 41 stableford points – a gross score of 77 with three birdies. It was also good day for Andrew McQueen, Geoff Bleasby and Rich Howes all scoring 37 stableford points.
