In June we were pleased to announce our Chichester Half Marathon runners, set to take on the 13.1 mile challenge this October. We caught up with runner, Nick, to find out little more about how his training is progressing

5 minutes with Nick Sutherland
Matthew Coughlan, Anna Brown and Nick Sutherland have all been working really hard with coach, Danny Watts, to get fighting fit and ready for the big day on Sunday 8th October.
We took 5 minutes out with Nick, to see how he has been getting on ahead of the big day!
1.Tell me about yourself…
I live and work in Chichester as Managing Director of the Sussex Pub Company. I’m married to my adorable and supportive wife Lisa, with two children Sam and Florence. 18 months ago I decided to start taking more care of my body and joined the Goodwood Health Club, primarily for the outdoor actives and classes that they offer. Now I manage 3-4 classes a week, all before leaving for work at 8.30am.
2. Why have you chosen to run the Chichester Half-Marathon? And what will it mean to you to finish it?
My Son asked me to join him on a 10K run last year, to which I agreed (anything to get him away from his electronic devices!) I could not believe how much I enjoyed it. Since then, I have completed three more 10K runs and one 10 mile run. I originally thought that the Chichester Half Marathon would be a step too far for me at my age, however Team Goodwood and Danny have given me the confidence to enter this event and most of all, enjoy it!
3. What does your normal week of exercise look like?
Monday morning, 7am, GO! Blast. Tuesday’s Interval Training is the hardest session of the week for me as it gets your heart rate up like nothing else! Wednesday mornings are Sunrise Yoga outside, which is a great way to stretch out and work on positive posture. Then Friday, 7am, the most enjoyable class of the week; GO! Running with Danny. Normally a gentle 5K around the Goodwood Estate, with a little boxing thrown in if we’re lucky!
4. With the additional training and support that you are receiving as being part of the team, how have you found the experience? And what’s the best advice you’ve received?
Danny has proved to be a great motivator for all of the runners in our team and has managed in a short space of time to build such a strong team spirt among us. It was a slow start, however with Gary’s help also we have our weekly group run which is a really positive experience for us all. The Goodwood team have really helped me believe that I can complete this arduous event.
5. Finally, for the sake of the ‘sweepstake’ do you have a time that you’re looking to complete the run in?
I’m hoping for 2 hours 20 minutes.
