Five minutes with Scott Pratt
How did you get into Personal Training?
I got in to Personal Training after I finished my Sports Coaching Science degree at the University of Chichester. I was already working for Goodwood so took the opportunity to get my level 3 qualification and than began to take on clients at the Health Club
What would you say is your favourite thing about the job?
Working with individuals that are hard working and motivated to improve, no matter what goal they are trying to achieve.
What are your fitness goals and what are you training towards at the moment?
At the moment I am trying to improve my running. I was of a good standard about three years ago but then I bought a house, work got busier and life just got in the way! If I could get back to the same standard and be able to get back to my regular training then I would be very happy. The Aim that I working towards right now is the Chichester 10k at the beginning of next year.
What would you say is your favourite form of exercise?
Running will always be my favourite. It allows me to go out on my own and clear my head, listen to some music and just block out all the stresses of life.
In terms of one particular exercise I love a kettlebell swing. It can be tailored so easily to increase the difficulty or change it to make it different enough to keep the body progressing. It works so many different muscles in the body, building core strength, muscular control and explosive power.
Who would you say inspires you?
I don’t really have a person in particular that inspires me. I am more driven and guided by what I would like my life to look like in the future and what I would be happy when I'm looking back in thirty years time.
On a typical day what would you eat to keep lean whilst your training?
I always have porridge for breakfast to set me up nicely for the day. For lunch I tend to just have a salad or sandwich with either tuna or cheese and for dinner I love making homemade burgers or chicken fajitas -they're a good source of protein with enough carbohydrates and fats to make a goof balanced meal.I do eat well but have to admit I am partial to a nice piece of cake with a cup of tea!
What do you think other people would say your strengths are?
My self discipline is often commented on. I am very driven, striving to constantly improve in whatever I am doing. Once one goal is achieved, it is on to the next!
What would be your number one tip to help Members achieve their goals?
Consistency. There is no point in doing a lot for a short period of time; progress takes time don’t expect overnight success. So stick with your exercise plan and goals, we are always here to help if you need some extra inspiration.
