Pilatus PC-12

Thanks to Oriens, the UK distributor, a Pilatus PC-12 will be on display at Goodwood Aerodrome for the day. Take the opportunity to look inside this single-engine turboprop aircraft and marvel at the quality of the finish.  

Westland Wasp

Thanks to Westland Wasp Historic Flights for bringing a Westland Wasp.

Westland Wasp HAS Mk 1 XT787 (G-KAXT) represents the first generation of British helicopters which was designed to operate from frigates at sea. The Wasp formed an integral part of the ship’s weapon system, allowing the ship to extend its range and influence beyond that of its own weapons. With its folding tail and rotor blades, quadricycle undercarriage and castoring wheels, the development of the Wasp made a vital contribution to solving the challenges of flying helicopters from small ships.

Goodwood's Fleet of Aircraft

Either on the ground or in the air you will be able to feast your eyes on Goodwood Flying School's fleet of aircraft. Look out for the ever-popular 1943 Harvard warbird, which was used to train World War II Spitfire pilots. Marvel at the elegance and beauty of the open-cockpit Boeing Stearman. Talk to the pilots and flying instructors and find out why the Piper Super Cub is one of their favourite light aircraft. Climb into and take the controls of the modern Cessna.  

Flying for Freedom Microlight

Flying For Freedom (FFF) is a UK wide flying based endeavour, providing opportunities to fly various legs of a challenge in a microlight. In 2015, FFF pilots flew nearly 2000 miles around the UK in six flexwing microlights, all piloted by disabled pilots. 

This is led by Capt Luke Sinnott of the Royal Engineers who lost both his legs whilst serving as a search advisor in Afghanistan. Luke will be at our Open Day with his microlight so this is your chance to talk to him about his previous trips and find out about his next adventure.

Lasham Gliding Society

The ASK21 will be on display and is the basic training glider of the Lasham Gliding Society. This is a modern training glider. With its 17m wings, it is a versatile and safe aircraft, allowing everything from basic training to early cross country coaching. It is also fully aerobatic and capable of most positive and negative G manoeuvres. Lasham is lucky to have 5 of these training gliders. 

Amphibious Aircraft

Thanks to Captain John Russell, a retired British Airways and experienced seaplane pilot, who will be bringing this amphibian floatplane to the Goodwood Aerodrome Open Day.

It is regularly used for film, TV and promotional work plus private touring in Europe. The aircraft is often seen here as Goodwood Aircraft Maintenance provides the unique technical expertise required to maintain the amphibian in a serviceable state. The aircraft has only accrued 2300 flying hours since 1981; yet has made nearly 1300 water landings in the last 11 years.

Drones

There was the chance to find out out about learning to fly drones and the implications of new legistlation for drone flyer, with the Aerodrome tenant, Across Safety. 

Model Aircraft

There was a great display of model aircraft on the roof of the Aerodrome Building thanks to CADMAC, Chichester and District Model Aero Club. Visitors enjoyed meeting some of the enthusiasts and admire these treasured aircraft, whilst enjoying spectacular views from the roof of the Aerodrome Building.

Ballooning

Tethered ballons were on display for some of the day.

There were a series of short talks throughout the day.
