Following a winter of planning, player recruitment, junior development, warm-up matches, and squad practice sessions, we are pleased to be hosting the first competitive match of the season for our scratch team on Saturday 19 May in the Oliver Trophy vs Selsey.
MAY 17th 2018
Scratch Team start their 2018 Campaign
The format is 4 x foursomes scratch match-play matches to be played in the morning starting at 8:30am on the first tee of The Downs Course, followed by eight singles scratch match-play matches starting around 2pm.
The Oliver Trophy competition is made up of clubs from across Sussex and has a long-running history of high-quality golf played in arguably the games truest form, head to head winner-takes-all match-play, which Goodwood have contributed to over the last 30 years, culminating in reaching the final last year.
The team representing Goodwood is made up of full male members, intermediate age members, and an England Junior. We are delighted to welcome back 2017 Golf at Goodwood club champion, Leonardo Ruggieri, who has flown back from the USA to compete in the UK for the 2018 season.
Leo is one of three former Club Champions representing Goodwood this weekend alongside three former county players, two current county players and a 2017 Sussex Amateur championship quarterfinalist. All will help make up one of the strongest scratch team squads Goodwood has been able to produce in the last 30 years.
