Take cycling for a spin
What are the benefits of cycling?
Cycling is a cardiovascular exercise so it is good for a healthy heart, lungs and circulation. It is also leg dominant so it can help toning the legs and bum.
How much weight do you lose cycling?
As with any exercise, you get out what you put in. You can burn plenty of calories, if you put in some faster efforts!
What other exercises in the gym could complement cycling?
Squats, lunges and dead lifts all complement cycling nicely but so does core work too, for example planks and bridges.
How long should I cycle in the gym?
A 20-minute static bike ride is plenty if you are doing some short bursts of effort within that however, a 45-minute spin class will really boost your cardio fitness and burn 400-500 calories.
How high should the bike saddle be?
Set up is important, you want to have your knees and elbows slightly bent but not locked out. If the saddle is too low, there is a lot more pressure through the knees, most people need to go a little higher than they think. If you’re ever stuck just ask an instructor to help.
Is cycling better than running?
As above, you get out what you put in. If you enjoy running, go running but if you prefer cycling, ride. Exercise should be enjoyable, not a chore. Get out and about, journeys less than 2-3 miles are generally faster by bike than driving especially through towns!
