5 Benefits of Cycling
Builds strength: Whilst it can be perceived as an activity that solely involves your legs, cycling is actually the perfect whole-body workout. Using many different muscles means that you can strengthen and tone your whole body whilst exercising.
Great for the heart: Cycling strengthens the muscle of your heart, lowers resting pulse and reduces blood fat levels, so you have less risk for heart disease. Why not try cycling to work? Not only is it better for you, but you are putting far less pollution into the air.
Improves cardiovascular fitness: Exercising on a bike allows your heart rate to increase at a steady pace. This increase promotes cardiovascular fitness, meaning that your overall health and stamina can improve.
Increases muscle tone: Cycling improves general muscle function, with little risk of over-exercise or strain. Regular cycling strengthens leg muscles and is great for the mobility of hip and knee joints. You will gradually begin to see an improvement in the muscle tone of your legs, thighs, rear end and hips.
Easy on the joints: Over time we often hear that one of the consequences of running is strain on your joints. However, biking is a much lower impact exercise meaning that there is less stress on your knees and ankles. Riding a bike is also an ideal form of exercise if you are recovering from injury.
