Dr John Mason - Is There (Was There) Life on Mars?
- The Kennels
Wednesday 12 October | 6:30pm
Talk/Dinner/Stargazing
Dr John Mason presents Is There (Was There) Life on Mars?
Less than 100 years ago, people believed in intelligent Martians who dug a network of canals to irrigate their bitterly cold, dry planet.
Today, spacecraft have shown us that Mars appears barren and lifeless, but long ago it was warmer and wetter than it is now. Could Mars have supported life back then? A rover called Perseverance has landed in what was once a deep lake 30 miles wide and is searching for signs of past life on the former lake bed.
And is there life on Mars today, perhaps living in caves deep beneath the surface? The search is on…
After the talk, a three-course dinner will be served in the restaurant before you head outside for after-dinner stargazing through Telescopes.
Explore the early autumn night sky in the grounds of The Kennels with the aid of a laser-guided tour of the brighter stars and constellations, weather permitting. By 10pm, Saturn and Jupiter will both be visible in the southern sky and there will be a very bright waning gibbous Moon and the Red Planet Mars rising in the east. Warm clothing and waterproof footwear recommended.
Please note: If it's cloudy or wet on the evening, we will not be able to offer the stargazing element so would invite guests back on another date just for this part.
£85 per person which includes a three-course dinner and welcome drink. To book, please click here. For more information, please email kennelsreservations@goodwood.com or call 01243 755132.
