Are the wet, darker days putting a bit of a damper on your workouts? Is staying in shape something that's getting pushed to the bottom of the list? If you are beginning to fall out of love with exercising here are our top tips to make exercise something you actually want to do:
Find a gym buddy
Recruit a workout partner, someone to go to the gym with you. Not only can you socialise while you are there, but you will have back up just in case you a little extra motivation to get down to the gym.
Mix it up
Don't stick with the same routine. Shake it up by trying different activities. If you don't like weight training or running, try out a sport or dancing. Swap the gym for a studio class or even the swimming pool.
Add music
Sounds obvious, but music can enhance a workout and instantly make it more enjoyable.
Shorter Workouts
If you don't have the time or enthusiasm to last an hour, try just 20 or 30 minutes instead. Shorter workouts that are higher intensity can be better than longer ones and you become more focused as a result. Also after an hour or more of exercise your body hits a stage where more exercise can actually reduce physical improvements.
Set goals
We're not talking about weight loss or muscle gain goals, but fitness goals. Try to beat your past records in distance, reps of push-ups or chin-ups, weight you can lift and stretching abilities. Haven't any yet? Start setting some! Fitness goals make it a game where you strive to beat your previous scores. '
