No longer a food to be afraid of, eggs are recognised to have plenty of nutritional benefits. Here are four great benefits of eating eggs:
1) A single large poached egg contains Vitamin A, Folate, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B12 , Vitamin B2 , Phosphorus, and Selenium. Eggs also contain decent amounts of Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Calcium and Zinc.
2) HDL stands for High Density Lipoprotein, and often known as the “good” cholesterol. Eggs are a great way to increase HDL. People who have higher levels of HDL usually have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke and various health problems. In one study, two eggs per day for six weeks increased HDL levels by 10%.
3) Eggs are low calorie sources of protein with one medium egg containing just 70 – 85 calories and around 6.5grams of protein. Protein keeps you feeling fuller for longer, so eating three eggs in a omelette, scrambled or poached for beakfast, should keep hunger at bay until lunch.
4) Whole eggs are an excellent source of choline. A single egg contains more than 100 mg of this very important nutrient. Choline is used to build cell membranes and has a role in producing signalling molecules in the brain, along with various other functions.
