Physiotherapy
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy initiated from nursing where the realisation was made that heat, massage and exercise could help relieve ailments in muscles and joints and was very much a prescriptive treatment. Over time physiotherapy has developed into a standalone treatment, where similar processes are used but not until a thorough assessment of the patient is made.
What can physiotherapy treat?
Chartered physiotherapists treat musculoskeletal injuries and aid in the rehabilitation of patients that have undergone recent operations or traumas.
It is often the first point of call to treat:
- Back and neck pain
- Headache and migraine
- Sports injuries
- Work related conditions
- Postural re-education
- Whiplash injuries
- Post-op rehabilitation
- Leg and arm pain
- Adolescent “growth” pain
What does physiotherapy involve?
A variety of techniques are used to help restore normal biomechanics, improve tissue healing and reduce pain; such as:
- Biomechanical assessment and correction
- Joint mobilisation/manipulation
- Specific soft tissue massage/stretching
- Electrotherapy: ultrasound and interferential therapy
- Acupuncture
- Tailored exercise regime
- Advice and re-education
- Taping and kinesiotaping
The main aim is to discover what the issue is, and fix it as soon as possible. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in any of the areas that have been mentioned above, then book a consultation with one of our Chartered Physiotherapists today.
