Both dogs and humans bristle with national and global awards in this specialist skill. Ricky Hutchinson and his dog were International Supreme Champions in 2015 and 2017, two times English National Champions and third in World Trials in 2014. Together they hold 150 Open Trials titles whilst team member Kevin Evans was also International Supreme single and doubles champion in 2019 and 2020.
Kevin has been described as one of the most talented young handlers of his generation having won TV’s ‘One Man and his Dog’ competition with his dog, Maud, when he was just 13 years old back in 1994. Nowadays, Kevin owns thirty border collies and, having grown up on the family farm in Libanus, nestled under the Brecon Beacons, it’s no wonder he has made such a success of his chosen profession.
Aled Owen is a three times International Sheepdog Society Supreme Champion, Robert Ellis is a Welsh National Winner and judge Andy Jackman can often be seen commentating alongside Matt Baker on the BBC Countryfile programme.
Andy said, “I started trialling in 1980 and still compete now although not as regularly. My finest hour was taking part in the Armathwaite Supreme Final in 1993 when I was honoured to represent England alongside my most successful dog, Don.”
The commentator for the sheepdog demonstrations at Goodwoof will be Richard Smith, Senior Farm Manager at Daylesford Organics.
