This exciting new award has been specially created to nurture rising British talent, recognising innovative fashion designers who show creativity and flair.
The idea was inspired by Nabil Nayal, who was commissioned to create three one-off pieces for Goodwood in 2019, and the winner of the annual award will unveil their designs during the Opening Ceremony of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
This year, the talented Richard Quinn, known for his flamboyant use of print and extravagant style, will be launching the award with three fabulous couture gowns inspired by Goodwood’s heritage.
Goodwood has always been known for its ‘England in the Summer’ fashion focus, ever since King Edward VII and Lillie Langtry frequented the event, so it is only fitting that Richard Quinn, with his talent for creating original, show-stopping design, should launch this new award, which will support young British talent whilst helping us build a unique fashion collection of one-off pieces here at Goodwood. Richard has delved into Goodwood’s past and drawn inspiration from the Edwardian style that formed a significant part of the history of horseracing at Goodwood - The Duke of Richmond
"I am thrilled to be partnering with Goodwood and excited to immerse myself in the rich history and exciting sense of occasion. It’s wonderful to be celebrating high fashion just as restrictions are being lifted and I can’t wait to see my designs on Goodwood Racecourse” says Richard Quinn.
Caroline Rush, BFC Chief Executive says:
“We are delighted to support the ‘Goodwood Talent in Fashion’ Award and give the opportunity to one young British talent each year to be associated with such an iconic event. Richard Quinn was the inaugural recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design, and is a fantastic creative whose style and aesthetic are fitting to Goodwood. I look forward to seeing what he comes up with!”
The threen gowns will be revealed on Tuesday 27th July 2021 during the Opening Ceremony of the Qatar Goodwod Festival and will provide a head-turning moment during Goodwood’s headline horseracing fixture, which is known for its garden party atmosphere and quintessentially English style.
The ‘Goodwood Talent in Fashion’ Award will be held every year and the winning designer selected by a panel of judges to include The Duke of Richmond, Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, Sian Westerman, Non-Executive Director, British Fashion
