The Downs course played host to the Brabazon Trophy Southern Qualifier event on Tuesday 16 May with 116 golfers taking to the course to try and secure their place in the Brabazon Trophy final taking place at Sunningdale (New) Golf Club between Thursday 25 and Sunday 28 May.

The course looked exceptional and a huge congratulations to our greenkeepers who worked tirelessly in the lead up to the event to make the course look as incredible as it did.

The course was ready for what was set to be a brilliant day and the first group teeing off at 7:30am ahead of a busy day on the course with some excellent on-course action.

Our very own Junior Member, Drew Sykes, took to the course during the 9:42am group. Drew finished with a round of 76 and finished in 46th overall, which considering the challenging, windy conditions, was an amazing achievement.

The top 18 qualified on the day so congratulations to all of those who made it through to the finals. The best score of the day came from Tim Hollis of Haywards Health, Enrique Dimayuga from Walton Heath and Alex Stubbs of Frilford Heath who all finished -2 with a score of 70. A full list of results can be viewed here.

In the days that followed the main event and with the course remaining in its Championship set up, we held a Brabazon Trophy best of series, giving members the opportunity to challenge themselves and see how their scores stood up against the Brabazon Trophy field. Thank you to everyone who participated and the leaderboard from the series can be seen here.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in competitions throughout the Brabazon Trophy week and we hope to hold more events like this in the future.
