As the colours of spring are joined by the warmth of summer, Goodwood welcomes you to the May Festival and a chance to see some exciting horses make their mark on the immaculate turf.
With Listed races and over £450,000 in prize money on offer, the May Festival acts as a precursor to the Qatar Goodwood Festival and an opportunity for reputations to be enhanced.
The opening Thursday highlight is the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes (won in 2017 by the regally-bred Mori), which provides an insight into the fillies to look out for over the season. The stunning back-drop of the South Downs is a permanent feature as a further six races provide more excitement and spectacle.
A visit to the beautiful parade ring is a must; thoroughbreds glisten in their new summer coats as they limber up, trainers run through last-minute instructions with their jockeys and owners watch on in nervous anticipation.
With subtle live music on the East Parade Lawn to accompany the entertainment on the course, the May Festival is the perfect place to be as the eyes of the racing world look on.
Gates open at 11.30am on Thursday, with the first race of seven races setting off at 2.00pm, with the last at 5.25pm (times subject to change). Gates will close an hour after the last race.
Complimentary buses will run from Chichester Railway Station every half an hour from 10.15am - 2.15pm. Please note, the last return journey will be 30 minutes after the last race.
