The three winners, shortlisted from a large number of heartwarming entries, travelled from across the country to enjoy a fun-filled day out, hosted by MARS Petcare, in recognition of their wonderful dogs and the support that they give their families.
Winner of the Child’s Best Friend category, Daisy, with her marvellous dog, Nova, was delighted to be at the event. Nine-year-old Daisy lives with health issues and is always comforted by her golden Labrador. She said, “Nova is always there to cheer me up when I’ve had a difficult day at the hospital, she plays with me and sleeps next to me and I cuddle her and that makes me feel better when I’m feeling down.”
Winner of the Paw-fect Partner category was Gracie-May who came to Goodwoof with owner Neta. Seven years ago, Neta had to have an ileostomy and now has an ostomy pouch which needs to be emptied five to eight times a day. Neta said, “My dog, Gracie-May has been such a help to me - warning me, even in the middle of the night when the bag needs to be changed. She is an old dog now, but I don’t know where I’d be without her.”
The final winner was Trinny, the amazing dog who cleans up litter near Glasgow where she lives. Owner Alanna was super proud of her unassuming, Unsung Hero. She said, “Trinny is trained to pick up litter which, obviously, could be hazardous to dogs. I wouldn’t recommend dogs doing this without being able to recognise items, such as broken glass, or tins, as they may hurt themselves, but Trinny has inspired so many other dog-walkers to pick up litter whilst on their dog walks which is helping to improve their local environments.”
At Mars we are passionate about creating a better world for pets, but we have also been shining a light on how pets make our world better too. We have just partnered with Calm to survey over 30,000 pet owners around the world and found that 58% prefer to spend time with pets when feeling stressed. There is so much evidence that the bond we share with our pets has a truly transformational impact on our wellbeing, so I am absolutely delighted to celebrate these incredible stories and to highlight some of the extraordinary bonds between people and their pets.
