THE

‘40s STYLE

When Goodwood Motor Circuit opened in 1948, fashion was at a crossroads between the utilitarian, pared-down suits - dictated in part by years of rationing - and a new era of screen siren glamour. Stars like Rita Hayworth, Lena Horne and Ingrid Bergman provided endless inspiration as movie studios continued to influence trends.

THE

‘50s style

A variety of style identities took shape in the 1950s, informed by icons of music and film. Beyond the rockabillies, pin-ups and Teddy boys, Paris was re-established as the epicentre of influential design, with the houses of Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga inspiring new shapes.

THE

‘60s style

A new era of flamboyant, playful and unisex clothing reflected a spirit of seismic change in the 1960s. Designers looked beyond the western canon for inspiration, consumers embraced vintage and the mini-skirt was born.
