Overview

Get closer to and immerse yourself in nature with our Wildlife Encounters experience. Watch as skilled ringers carefully handle wild birds and fit minuscule identification rings to track the incredible journeys these small, winged creatures make.

As the experience unfolds, you will then take a deep dive into the world of moths. Discover the diversity of the local species, drawn overnight to the light traps and develop a deeper understanding of these native, nocturnal species.

Suitable for nature enthusiasts and novices alike, this event provides an engaging insight into the hidden lives of birds and nocturnal insects.

Please note, the bird ringing will be carried out under licence from The British Trust for Ornithology.

About Chrissy

Chrissi came to bird ringing in 2009 after watching a Springwatch demonstration at Rye Bay and hasn't looked back since. What began as curiosity quickly became an obsession and she is now a licensed ringer with a keen interest in migration and post-fledging dispersal.

She belongs to Cissbury Ringing Group near Worthing, holds ringing sites at Goodwood and the Leconfield Estate in Petworth and each spring runs the Gibraltar Bird Observatory, monitoring raptor migration on the Rock. She has also surveyed barn owl boxes on the Goodwood Estate for over 15 years and has ringed raptors in both the UK and Canada.

At Goodwood, Chrissi has been mist-netting passerines for the past two years, helping to build a clearer picture of the species that overwinter and migrate through the estate, contributing directly to its biodiversity goals.
