The Cold Exposure and Breathwork Retreat offers an immersive 1-night journey into breathwork, cold exposure and mindset training – designed to build resilience, boost energy and enhance overall wellbeing.
The Wim Hof Method restores the connection with natural elements through breathwork, cold water immersion and mindset training. These elements come together to soothe the nervous system, restore deep clarity and build mind-body focus.
At the heart of the Cold Exposure & Breathwork Retreat is the Wim Hof Method Fundamentals Experience, led by certified instructor Dan Hughes. This transformative practice is built on three core pillars:
Breathing Techniques: Learn controlled breathing exercises designed to increase oxygen levels, boost energy, and reduce stress.
Cold Exposure: Safely experience cold therapy to stimulate the cardiovascular system, enhance immune response, and improve resilience.
Mindset Training: Develop mental focus and determination to overcome challenges and strengthen mind-body awareness.
Reduced Feelings of Stress
Wim Hof breathing exercises can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping people feel calmer.
Reduced Muscle Inflammation
Cold exposure causes blood vessels to constrict, reducing swelling and post-exercise soreness.
Increased Feelings of Energy
Wim Hof breathing increases oxygen availability temporarily and stimulates the release of adrenaline, which many people describe as feeling energised and alert.
Improved Focus
Deep breathing and mindfulness components encourage concentration, while cold exposure requires sustained mental attention.
Improved Circulation
Alternating between cold exposure and rewarming causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate. This "vascular exercise" may improve blood vessel responsiveness.
Set in the heart of Goodwood’s 11,000-acre estate, The Goodwood Hotel offers a peaceful base for restoration. You will stay in a Signature Room with complimentary access to the gym, spa, sauna, steam room, pool and nature or breath walks to support your gut health and overall wellbeing.

Yes, we use large metal baths and aim for 2 minutes for someone's first ice bath. If at any point you want to get out, then of course you can.
Cold water immersion or the Wim Hof Method has been linked to reduced muscle inflammation, improved circulation, elevated mood through dopamine release and a strengthened stress response. The Wim Hof breathwork technique works alongside cold exposure to calm the nervous system, sharpen focus and support deeper recovery.
The Wim Hof Method is considered safe for most healthy adults when practised under proper guidance. At Goodwood, every session is led by a certified Wim Hof instructor who provides full safety briefings and monitors all participants throughout. The breathwork and cold exposure are carefully sequenced and never undertaken alone or without preparation. We recommend consulting your GP before attending if you have a heart condition, epilepsy, Raynaud's syndrome, or are pregnant. If you have any questions about your suitability, please contact our team before booking.
No prior experience is necessary. The retreat is designed to be accessible to beginners while offering genuine challenge and depth for those who have explored the method before. Dan Hughes, our certified Wim Hof instructor, guides every participant through the process from first principle, at a pace that works for the group. Many of our guests arrive with no breathwork experience and leave with the tools and confidence to continue the practice at home.
The retreat is priced from £495 per person and includes one night in a Signature Room at The Goodwood Hotel, breakfast, lunch and dinner and the full Wim Hof Method workshop led by a certified instructor.
A guided Wim Hof Method retreat delivers something a solo practice at home cannot: structure, safety and progression of working with a certified instructor in a controlled environment. The breathwork preparation before cold exposure is critical - it is what allows the body to respond to the cold with calm rather than panic. At Goodwood, the combination of guided breathing, immersive ice bath and overnight recovery in a hotel setting allows for a depth of integration that a home cold shower simply cannot replicate. You leave not just having experienced the method but understanding how to carry it forward.
Many guests report an immediate sense of clarity, calm and elevated energy following cold exposure. The mindset training element of the Wim Hof Method helps participants carry this state beyond the session. While a single retreat delivers a powerful introduction to the method, the greatest benefits come from regular practice. You will leave with the techniques, breathing patterns, and understanding needed to begin building that practice at home.
We recommend bringing a swimsuit or shorts for the ice bath, comfortable clothing for the breathwork and mindset sessions and a change of warm clothes for afterwards. A towel will be provided. We suggest leaving technology at home or in your room - the retreat offers a natural opportunity to disconnect and be fully present and many guests choose to observe an optional digital detox for the duration of their stay.
Dan is a sought-after coach, dedicated to helping people reconnect with their natural resilience through breath, a strong mindset and controlled cold exposure. After recovering from a serious illness using these very tools, Dan left a long corporate career to co‑found Vitae Vi - a wellbeing company centred on nervous‑system balance, clarity of mind and sustainable energy.
Trained by the Wim Hof Method Academy, Dan blends science‑backed breathwork, functional breathing principles and steady, accessible cold exposure to help others feel safe, clear and capable in their bodies again. His approach is grounded, supportive and deeply practical - empowering people to understand how their breath, focus and physiology shape their everyday experience.

The contrast between the cold and the calm was exactly what I needed. I left feeling stronger, clearer and more connected to myself than I've felt in years.
